RTX's Raytheon Doubles Global Stinger Missile Production to Meet Growing Demand
Raytheon Expands Stinger Missile Manufacturing:
Raytheon's production output of FIM-92 Stinger missiles is set to receive a significant boost from the US and allied countries, which are demanding more supply for the MANPAD. The Raytheon business is boosting capacity, modernising manufacturing lines and extending supply chains to be ready to turn out substantially more missiles each year, amid continued spending on the acquisition of air defence.
It comes as militaries spend more money on short-range air-defence. Stingers, which are an Infrared-guided missile launched by the United States for battlefield use and that can be carried and operated by a soldier as an anti-aircraft missile, were in use during 1980-89 and are still actively deployed in more than 20 nations worldwide.

Meeting Rising Global Demand:
The rise in production comes as global demand for mobile air defense systems has increased along with global security tensions. Many countries are boosting the defensive capacity of short-range air defense forces through resupply of missile munitions, expansion of their own military arsenals, and enhancing protection against low-altitude and flying targets like helicopters, drones, and aircraft.
Raytheon is using investments in technology, a larger workforce, and partnerships with its suppliers to shorten the missile production cycle, boost its efficiency, and provide the continuity needed to continue missile output.

The Stinger missile continues to play a vital role in modern battlefield air defense because it can be rapidly deployed by infantry units without requiring large launch platforms or extensive support equipment.

As drones and other low-altitude aerial threats become increasingly common, portable air defense systems remain an important element of layered defense strategies.
