X-Bow Systems has unveiled Buckler, a flight-tested, low-cost interceptor designed to defeat Group 3 unmanned aerial systems (UAS) at supersonic speeds. Introduced at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, the interceptor is priced at under $100,000 per unit, offering a significantly more affordable alternative to conventional air defense missiles used against low-cost drones.

Buckler: X-Bow's Low-Cost Missile Designed for Mass Counter-Drone Defense

Buckler is intended to address a growing challenge on modern battlefields: defending against large-scale drone attacks without relying on expensive interceptors that can cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. X-Bow says the system is optimized to engage Group 3 drones, including threats comparable to the Shahed-136 class, while shifting the cost equation in favor of defenders.

The interceptor has already completed a successful flight test, validating its propulsion system and flight performance following earlier static-fire and igniter testing. According to the company, Buckler's airframe, solid rocket motor, and propellant are all manufactured in-house, giving X-Bow greater control over production, cost, and the ability to rapidly scale manufacturing to meet military demand.
