Uzbekistan and the United States have signed 54 deals worth $12 billion in various industries, including energy, minerals, agriculture, transport, and technology. The agreements were announced on October 19, 2026, during the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Uzbekistan.

The deals point to the efforts of both countries to establish cooperation in the economic sphere. Uzbekistan needs to attract investment to develop its industries and utilise its resources. For the United States, the expansion of business relationships may provide some commercial benefits and diversification of the supply chain.

As was stated in the report by [Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/rubio-seeks-expand-central-asia-ties-with-pomp-filled-uzbekistan-visit-2026-10-19/?ref=warfaredecoded.com) on the deal, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade said that the agreements covered such spheres as industry, energy, minerals and agriculture.

## Critical Minerals and Energy Among Key Sectors

Minerals have gained increasing attention as countries try to find reliable sources of materials for electronic devices, high-tech industry, and so on. The diversification of sources has become a top priority for many countries and enterprises.

Uzbekistan may attract investment in its minerals in cooperation with American companies. Such projects will provide capital and technologies

Given the variety of industries, the partnership clearly covers more than just traditional trade cooperation, and includes technology, investments, and infrastructure development.

The extraction of critical minerals is another field that interests the U.S. government, as the country wants to diversify supply chains for materials necessary for manufacturing, electronics, and military industries. As for Uzbekistan, the country is interested in attracting foreign investments and technology to develop the mineral resources.

### **Major Companies and Commercial Cooperation**

Bloomberg reported that the deal is one of many deals signed as part of a larger strategy of expanding economic influence in resource-rich Central Asia, which historically has strong commercial and political ties with Russia and China.

The agreements also include cooperation in transport and finance, as well as possibilities in agriculture, healthcare, and satellite connectivity. The cooperation in these spheres can help the country to update its infrastructure, gain access to financial resources and new technologies.

Still, it should be mentioned that the total figure of the announced deal should not be understood as $12 billion in funds already invested and projects already accomplished. In fact, the publicly available information includes information about the agreements that have a declared value; each of the projects may require additional financing, implementation steps, and commercial arrangements.

###
A Larger U.S. Presence in Central Asia

Rubio's trip comes in the context of increased engagement by the United States with countries in Central Asia. The strategic position of the region between important markets and its rich resources and potential for logistical use make it economically valuable.

In addition to meeting with local leaders, Rubio also discussed issues with regional foreign ministers, as well as participated in talks with Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries. As mentioned in Euronews, critical minerals and business cooperation were some of the subjects discussed during the trip.

A total of $12 billion in deals is a large amount for the portfolio of economic cooperation between the U.S. and Uzbekistan. Its actual significance will be known once the organizations involved reveal more about projects, investment plans and implementation.
