NASA Awards Amentum $974 Million Contract to Support Langley Research Center

Amentum has secured a $974 million, 10-year contract from NASA’s Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, Virginia. The contract, known as the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering II (CMOE II), will place Amentum in charge of a broad range of maintenance, engineering, and operational support activities across the research center.

Federal contracting records put the total potential value of the award at approximately $973.78 million. The contract was awarded to Amentum Technology under contract 80LARC24DA009, with performance scheduled from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2036.

Supporting NASA’s Advanced Research Infrastructure

The work extends well beyond conventional facility maintenance. Amentum will provide operations and engineering support for wind tunnels, laboratories, test facilities, utilities, and other specialized research infrastructure used at Langley.

The company will also handle preventive maintenance, repairs, engineering services, and project-management activities. The contract also includes support for facility modernization and automation, including upgrades to laboratory and wind-tunnel systems.

A Long-Term Role at NASA Langley

NASA Langley is one of the agency's major research centers and has played a central role in U.S. aeronautics and aerospace development for decades. Its facilities include sophisticated wind tunnels, laboratories, and test systems that allow researchers to evaluate aircraft and space technologies under controlled conditions.

Through CMOE II, Amentum will help keep that infrastructure operational while supporting modernization efforts. The 10-year duration also gives the company a long-term role in maintaining the facilities that underpin NASA's continuing research programs.

Contract Adds to Amentum’s Growing Backlog

The NASA award comes as Amentum continues to expand its portfolio of large U.S. government contracts. In its third-quarter fiscal 2026 results, the company reported approximately $3.49 billion in quarterly revenue and $48.2 billion in backlog, with the Langley contract contributing to its long-term order book.

Amentum also said that a previously filed protest involving the Langley procurement had been resolved during the quarter. The resolution allowed the company to move forward with the award and include the contract in its backlog and book-to-bill figures.

Strengthening Amentum’s NASA Business

The CMOE II award further expands Amentum's relationship with NASA. The company says it has supported NASA programs for more than six decades, providing engineering, technical, facility and mission-support services across the agency.

The company has also secured other major NASA work, including the COSMOS contract supporting spaceflight mission operations and systems. The combination of these programs gives Amentum a significant presence across NASA's research, infrastructure and spaceflight activities.

A Major Investment in NASA’s Research Facilities

The nearly $1 billion Langley contract represents more than a facility-management award. It gives Amentum responsibility for helping operate, maintain, and modernize infrastructure that supports NASA's aerospace research for the next decade.

For Amentum, the contract provides another substantial source of long-term government business. For NASA, it provides dedicated engineering and operational support aimed at keeping Langley's highly specialized research facilities ready for the next generation of aerospace and aeronautics programs.
